I Kissed a Girl became the number one hit in the world due to the combination of sexual enticement and a refined melody. It also helped her sell more albums, such as The One of the Boys. Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy second single Hot N Cold also proving to be a hit, the album which Perry composed herself, eventually saw the sales of over three million copies in the United States.
